Your Bio

I was born and raised in southern Minnesota. From the very beginning, I was fortunate to have parents that exposed me to nature and took me traveling frequently. When I was only 7 years old, we embarked on a month-long 6,000-mile road trip across the grandeur of the western United States. The things I saw there inspired me for the rest of my life. As I grew older, I never stopped traveling.

When I was 19, I began taking a heavy interest in photography. I wanted to capture all the wonders I had seen in my travels, and share them with the world. I started out with my mom’s 35mm point-and-shoot, learning the basics of composition and lighting, and gradually broadened my knowledge and skill, sometimes succeeding, sometimes not, but always learning.

Today, I’m 31. When I look back, I’m surprised at just how far I’ve come: I now posess a wealth of professional photographic knowledge and ability, shoot with professional-grade equipment, and spend several months every year traveling and adding to my ever-growing photography portfolio.

Despite all of that, I know that I’m not done. There is still more to learn. I think one can never truly master the art of photography -- one can only continue to improve. In time, I hope to emulate fellow Minnesotan Jim Brandenburg, who is quite possibly the finest nature photographer on Earth, and a man whom I draw a great deal of inspiration from. You rock, Jim!

In the summer I reside in Minneapolis, where I own a successful painting company as my day job. In the wintertime, I head south to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, where I recharge my soul and pursue my photography full time. Through it all, my girlfriend -- and lovely photo assistant -- Stephanie is with me. I couldn’t ask for aything more. I am very grateful!!
